Embedded Vision Company Opens European “Gateway”
Opening an office in Europe, the North American embedded vision data systems provider aims to increase its volume of work with European clients.
iENSO, a provider of embedded vision data systems, has chosen Kyiv, Ukraine as its “boots-on-the-ground gateway” to Europe. The move reflects the company’s increasing presence amongst European companies using its solutions.
Established in 2003, iENSO is a Canadian company that designs, builds and integrates custom vision and multi-sensor systems for companies that need to embed cameras, sensing capability, image processing, Edge AI, and cloud services capabilities in their products.
The company partner with clients, including several Fortune 500 companies, to help them embed intelligent data extraction and analysis, protected by cybersecurity technology, to support real-time decision making at the edge. This extends from appliances and devices around the home to a range of industrial and commercial applications, including robotics, autonomous vehicles, agriculture, and security.
“A growing number of customers in Europe are working with iENSO to enhance their products with embedded vision, Edge AI, cloud services and reliable cybersecurity features”, said Sebastien Dignard, President of iENSO. “This trend toward creating a new generation of smart devices and appliances makes it the ideal time for iENSO to establish a local presence”.
The company cites one of its reasons for establishing a base in Ukraine is that its an important trade and travel corridor between Europe, Asia and the Middle East where its team can operate from a time zone “closer to that of its European customers”.
It further notes that Ukraine Invest – the country’s investment promotion office for attracting foreign direct investment – is working to position Ukraine as a new alternative for services and engineering support for Europe’s electronics industry with “many multinational electronics companies having established Ukrainian operations in recent years”.
iENSO’s Kyiv engineering team will work to expand the company’s capabilities as a turnkey solution provider, with vision system-on-a-chip (SOC) development and design and service support for customers. This builds on the company’s existing operations in North America (HQ in Toronto, Canada) and in Asia (Shenzhen, China).
The company most recently worked with Ambarella, a fabless semiconductor design company focusing on low-power, high-definition and Ultra HD video compression, image processing, and computer vision processors. It also provided MIPI sensor modules for Sony’s IMX317, IMX377, and IMX334-based 4K UHD image sensors in 2020.
